Microsoft is previewing a google-killer search, at http://beta.search.msn.com/. Our initial testing reveals that it is *very* speedy. Comparative quality is far harder to assess, but it does not seem totally shoddy. Time will tell...
This is a good development, because Google has been the best search engine for far too long; it seems that they might even be getting complacent in some ways: They appear not to have indexed google images for a long time. However, there has been a noticeable response: http://www.google.com now reports (bottom of page) it is searching 8,058,044,651 web pages - about double the number reported previously.
