APPLE Computer is going to switch to Intel Processors!!

10:30, San Francisco Time:
This is confirmed. Steve Jobs has just said this at the WWDC in San Francisco.

10:32, SFT:
Every single build of Mac OS X has been able to compile on Intel Processors.

10:33, SFT:
Spotlight, iCal, Dashboard, iPhoto, Quicktime 7 all work. x86 demo box on display.

10:37, SFT:
Both Intel and PowerPC will be supported "for a very long time." [Ed: This was predicted by Arstechnica: "On the flip side, it would require a big commitment on the part of its developers and might alarm some people who have made a significant investment in PowerPC Mac hardware. For the next few years, the company would likely need to maintain builds of Mac OS X for both architectures, as would application developers."

10:41, SFT:
Mathematica code was running on x86 OS X in 2 hours, with 20 lines of source code change.

10:48, SFT:
OS X 10.4.1 Intel preview release dev platform will ship in two weeks to select and premier ADC developers for USD 999.

10:52, SFT:
Microsoft has committed itself to supporting Mac OS X on Intel.

10:52, SFT:
Adobe has committed itself to supporting Mac OS X on Intel.

[Ed: The Intel boxes are expected to ship in 2006. The question now is: What's going to happen to all the excess current inventory? "(F)or the first time in over a year, there is enough stock of all of Apple's major products -- both Mac and iPod -- that even the company's often-neglected value added retailers can get most products on demand. The only exceptions appear to be the new iMac G5 and the Special Edition U-2 iPod, both of which appear to be lingering just below a supply and demand balance."

In a sense this does not matter, because ever since the euphoria which surrounded the release of the 3G iPods, the success of Apple Computer has had nothing to do with computers.]

11:03, SFT:
There are Intel boxes for developers to work on during the WWDC.

[Ed: In other news about WWDC, the next iteration of OS X will be called Leopard.]
