Gizmondo: GPS Navigator with gaming built in?

Posted On: Sun, 23/10/2005 - 18:05 by Alex

We haven't really said many nice things about the Gizmondo in the past, but perhaps now's the time...

Along with Gizmondo's launch in the US, it has announced the Gizmondo Navigator 2006 software. The software provides mapping solutions for 4 regions – East Coast, Mid-West, West Coast, and South West for $169, while the entire USA map will cost $249.

The thing is: If you want to get both the Gizmondo and Navigator 2006 as a bundle, it is going for $399. At that price point, it becomes quite attractive - especially since the Navigator 2006 software is powered by CoPilot, which seems to be decent.

To get to this conclusion, I assumed froogle prices for GPS navigators were acceptable - if so, $400 is a good price for a GPS unit.

Perhaps it might be better if the gizmondo were a truly attractive gaming platform as well, but this might help improve market penetration, especially if the launch games are any good. Now, if only they just include a car cradle into that $399 deal...
