GPS Navigation with Traffic Monitoring +++

Earlier this month we talked about Traffic Vizzion and suggested that the ideal was integration of information flow from traffic monitoring services with GPS navigation systems.

Earlier this month we talked about Traffic Vizzion and suggested that the ideal was integration of information flow from traffic monitoring services with GPS navigation systems.

We said this with the impression that there was no such product on the market - and we were wrong. Reading the paper version of the October 17th edition of Fortune alerted us to this: In an article which highlighted must-get luxury items, one of the products featured was the Cobra NavOne 4500. Being all web-savvy, we immediately googled it, and were intrigued that in place-of-pride was a link to a PDF (direct link) of the September 12th edition of Businessweek.

That revealed that the US $50,000 2006 Acura R1 comes standard with a traffic monitoring GPS solution. Cobra's NavOne 4500, of course, was the best portable option available - with the biggest screen, better software, and with the base unit priced about $800, and traffic updates at $60/year.

Wow.

I suppose what we need now is for this sort of system to propagate worldwide. Driving with GPS is fun.

Update: Looks like it has. There is a european set with similar features, anyhow - but it's review is not so hot. Time to upgrade... hmm. Wonder what happens when -everyone- starts taking the same route to avoid that accident...
