The Nokia XpressMusic brand was also announced today, with the following featureset:
- Great audio quality
- Dedicated key(s) for fast and easy access to the music collection
- Play, talk and play - music pauses when a call comes in, resumes when the call has ended
- Use any headphones for listening with standard 3.5mm jack
- Extended battery time (minimum of 10 hours for music)
- Substantial storage for large number of songs
- Create and edit playlists on the go
- USB 2.0 support for fast and easy transfer of your music
- Wide support of audio formats, including MP3, M4A, WMA, AAC and eAAC+
- Easy access to over-the-air music downloads

Both the Nokia 3250 and Nokia N91 will be XpressMusic phones.

The Nokia 3250 should be an appealing device. The price seems right, the essentials for a good phone/music player are there (Play, talk and play; 3.5mm connector support; 8 hour+ battery life; wide music format support), it is a smartphone, and it has a 2 MP camera.

Two big questions remain: What size/price microSD will be available upon release, and when will the phone actually be released? The use of microSD (the memory format formerly known as Transflash) is not entirely unexpected, even though it is not a format previously used by Nokia. The Motorola ROKR uses microSD (it ships with a 512MB card), and SanDisk says that it "expects to have 1GB microSD cards in limited quantities by late Q4 2005 and 2GB cards in 2006."

The picture is a little less rosy when it comes to release dates. We suggest that it is likely that the Nokia 3250 will not see the light of day until a couple of months after the Nokia N91 is released. While, the Sony Ericsson competitor - the w800i (we love this mobique review) with it's Sony Walkman branding and 2MP camera has already been released for a couple of months, the Nokia 3250 has the potential to cannibalize sales of the Nokia N91, and Nokia is always very exact about it's product placing. We think the latter concern will reign, but will be glad to be proven wrong.
