Singapore seems to be having it good. The 2.0 MP (with macro mode) Sony Erisson K750i [link to a MobileBurn review] is now on sale from all three providers (at about USD 400 with a USD 15/month contract) and one of the providers, Starhub, now has the Nokia 6681 on sale for ~ USD 360.
This augers well for the general worldwide release, and it is actually surprising that the 6681 has taken so long to emerge from the carriers, given that it was available on the grey market about one-and-a-half months ago.
The big question now is how long Nokia will take to release the Nokia N90. While that was always meant to be a summer release, the fact remains that in the current market Sony Ericsson has the only 2MP cameraphone widely available; customers on an upgrade cycle might well decide to forego the N90 - it is bigger, heavier, and likely to be pricier initially. Nokia's current top of the line is the Nokia 6680, which, while it has sweet symbian functionality, has only a 1.3MP camera; and we all know that consumers like the camera.
While the release of the Nokia 6681 might seek to be a counter to the K750i, at least for awhile, the big problem with that release is the subsequent price depression of the Nokia 3230. It is now available for a paltry USD 200. (It was sold for USD 360 upon release, although that figure has dwindled.)
Let us have the N70/N91 already!
