The big news today is that Nokia is paying $430 million to acquire Intellisync Corp., a provider of wireless e-mail service for cellular carriers.
On the surface, this is strange, because it seems to be tacit acceptance that it's launched (but not yet shipping) Nokia Business Center software is not of sufficient quality to penetrate the market.
That might just be it. Om Malik says, in his post on the purchase, that "Nokia folks had popped in to Business 2.0 offices a few months ago, showing off their wireless email solution. One word: yikes! I choose not to spend anytime and energy on it, but this purchase kinda confirmed that they needed some outside help."
