Samsung Symbian phones finally about to ship?

Posted On: Mon, 15/08/2005 - 13:21 by Alex

Slashphone is reporting that Samsung is -finally- going to allow their Symbian products to ship, first in Germany. We've wrote about Samsung's Symbian phones before, and the phones with model number D700 and D710 have been displayed as near-production prototypes, but for whatever reason Samsung has never actually brought any Symbian phone to market.

In any case, Slashphone has a number of pictures of the D720 and D730. The first is a slider as expected while the second is a flip phone. The design of both aren't particularly inspiring (although we reserve final comment until we see them in the flesh) - and neither are their specifications. They both boast 1.3 MP cameras and 262K colour screens, but these have become rather commonplace. They both aren't particularly small or light either, even though they are merely 2.5G triband devices.

So, a big -meh-, except that it's always good to have more manufacturers in the market, and the Symbian UI is very very good. (I've grown to appreciate it much more, since using the Nokia Series 40 interface in the Nokia 8800. Not that Series 40 is bad; just that Symbian is better.)

Oh. And neither www.samsung.com nor www.samsung.de has information about the phones yet. But slashphone is pretty reliable!
