User-Review of the Nokia 6270 (which, btw, is shipping)

Posted On: Fri, 02/12/2005 - 22:00 by Alex

Update 3/12/2005: Apparently there is an offline mode - just start the phone without a SIM card inserted.

MorteN- on the mobile-review forums has graciously reviewed his brand spanking new Nokia 6270 - and it's a pretty good review, covering all the basics, and with lots of photos. The Nokia 6270 is (one of Nokia's first) quadband GSM devices with a 262K colour QVGA screen, 2MP camera, Bluetooth, Infrared, and miniSD memory slot.

Highlights (paraphrased):

  • A little large
  • Good build quality, but slider portion has a little give
  • No offline mode
  • Partially-automated slide
  • Active Standy Screen useful

The Nokia 6111 is shipping in most places around the world; and the Nokia 6270 looks to hit worldwide distribution within the next week, leaving the Nokia 6280 as the only slider phone announced in june which has yet to ship. We expect that it will also become available within the next week, however.

If you're in the US, we actually recommend this Nokia 6270 instead of the newly announced Nokia 6282 - unless you're really certain that you need UMTS. It's available now, and has a better camera. For everyone else who doesn't want a smartphone - the Nokia 6280 is tough to beat, unless you want a small phone, in which case getting the Nokia 6111, or waiting for the Nokia 7370 (which is almost the same size, but has a much nicer screen) is the thing to do.
