Installing Programs

Installing using PC Suite:
The recommended method of installing programs on your phone is via the PC Suite. Unless you use a Mac.

Once the PC Suite is installed, all .sis and .jar files become associated with "Nokia Application Installer. To install, simply connect your phone to your computer and click on the file. The installer will launch automatically to transfer the program to your phone, and on the phone an installation prompt will appear.

Should this installation prompt not appear for whatever reason, as long as the file has been transferred, open up the App. Manager on your phone. You will notice that the file you transfer is listed, with a small cube on the right side. (see picture below) Simply select and install it.

It is not possible to install with auto-prompting; and certain programs will require you to select options multiple times during installation.

Suck it down.

The .sis or .jar file will automatically be deleted after installation.

Installing using simple Bluetooth and no PC Suite:
This is possible simply by trasferring the .jar or .sis file to the phone via bluetooth. You should first change your messaging memory to the memory card:

After this, transfer the file. On the Mac, use "Bluetooth File Exchange" in Applications / Utilities. On the PC, right click the file and select send to / Bluetooth, as per the screenshot below.

bluetooth send

You will then find the transferred file somewhere like:
E:\system\mail\00001001_S\0\00100c60_F\
Use FExplorer to open the .sis or .jar file, and it will install. Delete the file when you're done installing.

Depending on your firmware, the message might also appear in your messaging mailbox, and you can simply open the message to install the program. Delete the message when you're done with the installation.

Installing using a card reader:
The process is similar to that stated above; but now instead of transferring using bluetooth, simply copy the .sis or .jar to your memory card; anywhere will do.

Use FExplorer to open the .sis or .jar file, and it will install.

.jar Issue:
Occassionally, certain .jar files will be downloaded as .zip archives; to convert them back to .jar files, simply rename them.

To do this in Windows XP:

  1. click "My Computer"
  2. select the "Tools" menu
  3. click "Folder Options"
  4. select the tab called "View"
  5. De-select the checkbox "Hide extensions for known file types"
  6. rename the file, replacing .zip with .jar
