Sega Megadrive Emulation

Introducing PicoDrive:
With thanks to: All About Symbian Forums

Picodrive is a Sega Megadrive Emulator created by AnotherGuest; the latest version, 0.16 Build 152, is available for download here, and in the freeware bundle.

Basically, it allows Sega Megadrive or Sega Genesis (North American version) games to be played on your Symbian S60 phone. In most cases, this emulation is perfect, except that there is either no sound, or the sound is horrible. Of course, you cannot use your original Sega Megadrive cartridge to play: it does not connect to your phone, and is actually physically larger. To play the games, then, you need to obtain a ROM image.

The legality of this is questionable, but in the instant case there is reason to suggest that such use is legal - the original cartridges and indeed the platform are no longer (and incapable of) being sold. Against this backdrop there can be no real justification for copyright, which, after all, simply creates a false monopoly.

One definitely free (and legal) source of such ROMS is http://www.pdroms.com Megadrive games are listed under "Genesis." There are unfortunately only two at the moment, but both of these do work.

Using PicoDrive (0.16 Build 152 and above):

It is of course first necessary to install the program. Do this via the normal method.

Next, you will need to transfer the games to your memory card. It is recommended that you zip the games up first, to save space on your memory card. PicoDrive understands zipped games, and there is no performance penalty.
