RS-MMC Information

Compatibility:
The Nokia 7610 accepts both 2.7v (sometimes called 3.3v or 3v) and 1.8v RS-MMC cards. Note that this is not true for all S60 devices; the Nokia 6630 mobile apparently only accepts 1.8V RS-MMC's, which are not easily available currently. (20 Nov 2004)

There should be no issue using most brands of MMC, but it is a good practice to try before you buy, or buy only those RS-MMC's which state they are compatible with the Nokia 6670 or 7610 because compatibility is not guaranteed.

MMC Error - Password request:

Sometimes, for whatever reason, you may get an error on your phone which basically asks for your MMC password. The usual problem is that you have absolutely no idea what the password is.

There are two reasonably simple solutions. The first is to simply format the MMC in your PC or other device; (This definitely works on a Treo 600). The second is not destructive to data, and requires you to have a file manager other than the standard Nokia one; We recommend Fexplorer. After downloading and installing this, follow these instructions:

  1. Open FExplorer
  2. Move up/down till you are highlighting C:
  3. Press right on the direction-pad
  4. Press "Options", "File", "Find"
  5. Type in "mmcstore*" (not case-sensitive)
  6. Press "OK"
  7. You should see a file called MMC store (It is actually normally in C:/System)
  8. Press "Options", "File", "Editor (Viewer)"
  9. The password should be in plain text.
  10. Type in the password the next time you are asked for it.

You may also decide to disable the password after this:

  1. Open the program "Memory"
  2. Press "Options", "Remove password"
  3. Type in the password.

We have no idea why Nokia (or Symbian, whoever) decided to implement this locking mechanism in such a shoddy fashion.
