GRPS/WAP/MMS/email settings:

There are two ways to get these settings, and it is recommended you use them rather than type the information in manually.

You will want to:

  1. Get MMS settings if your service agreement support MMS or multimedia messaging.
  2. Get WAP/GPRS settings and Internet settings for applications if your service agreement supports WAP, GPRS, HTML, XHTML, or TCP/IP browsing.
  3. Get email settings if your service agreement supports mobile email.

Using the included Settings Wizard:

The 7610 should ship with a "Settings Wizard;" Otherwise, it is available as a free download from Nokia. Simply install and run the application; then follow on-screen prompts. It is really quite simple. If you have problems installing the Settings Wizard, read the Nokia Settings Wizard Guide.

Using the Nokia OTA Service:

This service is provided for free by Nokia, and basically sends you a text message which can setup your phone. To access the service, click here

To use gmail on your mobile:

Set up two mail accounts on your phone: One for receiving , and the other one for sending. This is necessary because receiving requires SSL, while sending requires TLS, and both can't be used in the same account on your phone. Input these settings:

Incoming Mail (POP3) Server – requires SSL: pop.gmail.com
Use SSL: Yes
Port: 995
Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server – requires TLS: smtp.gmail.com (use authentication)
Use Authentication: Yes
Use STARTTLS: Yes (some clients call this SSL)
Port: 465 or 587
Account Name: your Gmail username (including '@gmail.com')
Email Address: your full Gmail email address (username@gmail.com)
Password: your Gmail password

Surfing WAP via bluetooth:

There is apparently a method through which Symbian phones can surf over bluetooth. We have not tried it, because frankly the through of surfing on a 176 x 208 screen gives us the heeby jeebies, -especially- within 50ft of a real computer.

This page is intended for people reasonably familiar with TCP/IP routing (including concepts like PPP, proxy-arp, NAT, IP addresses, subnets). If you don't think that you understand these concepts, please refer to a good TCP/IP text first. - Mika Raento
